Fake Exterminator Steals Jewelry From Brooklyn Homes

MYFOXNY.COM - A man claiming to be an exterminator is making his way into homes in Brooklyn and stealing jewelry, according to the NYPD.

In the most recent robbery, on February 28, the man told the co-op residents at 2525 West 2nd Street that he needed to exterminate the building and that they should leave while he worked due to the fumes.

One robbery victim says the man told her he had been sent by the co-op board and to wait outside of her unit for 30 minutes while he finished spraying.  That gave the man plenty of time to get away after snatching jewelry and hiding it in a canister he was carrying.

Police are passing out a sketch of the fake exterminator. They describe him as Black or Hispanic, 28-35 years old, with a stocky build and a thin moustache. He was wearing a dark colored uniform during each of the five robberies.

The co-op board at 2525 West 2nd in the Gravesend section of the borough has posted warning notices and asked people to please stop leaving the front door of the building open.
